Corofin-Kilnaboy Notes for Thursday Nov. 28th.

Youth Club Open Evening

To coincide with a visit by Pat Burke, CEO of YouthWork Ireland, Kilnaboy Youth Club is holding an open evening at the Kilnaboy School Hall on this Friday night November 29th from 7.30pm. All current and former members as well as parents are invited to attend what is expected to be an interesting gathering. The regular club night will he held as usual from 9.00pm. Two boys teams at u-15 and u-18 competed recently at the county youth soccer tournament and enjoyed the experience winning a number of games.

Supporting Local Tourism

A Table Quiz in aid of the Corofin tourism Association takes place at Bofey Quinn’s, Corofin on this Friday night November 29th commencing at 9.30pm. The CTA which was only set up at the beginning of 2012 is doing great work in promoting the Corofin area as a tourism destination and is hoping for strong local support to assist them in their endeavours in 2014. The quiz is open to teams of four and their will also be a raffle on the night.

X-PO Meeting

The Annual general Meeting of KIlnaboy X-PO will be held there on this Friday night November 29th commencing at 8.00pm. All members and anyone interested in assisting with the work of the local venue are invited to attend.

Golfer of the Year

Corofin Golf Society will hold its last singles outing of the season at Ennis Golf Club on this Saturday where the tee is reserved from 11.15am. While the usual competition prizes will be of interest to the majority of participants Saturday’s event will be more keenly contested by those who are still in contention for the Golfer of the Year title. Any one of three or four members could claim the title depending on how they perform on Saturday.

Celebrating Commentators

Kilnaboy native Patrick Guthrie who has had a long association with the GAA at national level has recently completed a new publication entitled ‘The GAA & Radio Eireann – The Story of Commentators Who Broadcast GAA Games’. It features stories on all of the commentators who people would have listened to down through the decades and is a most interesting read. The book can be purchased in local shops.

Christmas Fair

In what has now become an annual event a Christmas Market will be held at Bofey Quinn’s, Corofin on Thursday night next December 5th. The fair will feature stalls selling items such as hand-made dolls houses, seaweed cosmetics, jewellery, vintage clothing and much more and everyone is welcome to come along.

Fun Bingo

A Fun Bingo Night in aid of Corofin Camogie Club will take place on Friday 6th December commencing at 8.45pm in Kilnaboy School Hall. Spot prizes include LED TV, Christmas Hampers and lots of vouchers. A great night out is promised for young and old and all support will be appreciated by the local club.

Shannon’s Title

Corofin athlete Michael Shannon who runs for the St. John’s Club in West Clare won his first Clare senior title at the recently held county senior championships. In capturing the title in a sprint finish Shannon also led his St. John’s club to victory in the team competition.

Harps Stalemate

Corofin Harps are finding points hard to come by in the Premier Division of the Clare Soccer League but picked up a valuable point in a 2 – 2 draw with Hermitage A at the week-end. John Keane and Brian McGahern were the Corofin scorers. Meanwhile Harps B are still waiting for their first points in the Division Three league having played four games.
