Corofin – KIlnaboy Notes 26th Sept

New Tourism Officers

A meeting of Corofin Tourism Association was held last week with the main business being the putting of a formal structure in place and agreeing both short and long term objectives for the group. The meeting was well attended and the following officers were elected: Chairperson; Pauline Bradley, Vice Chair; Aisling Quinn, Secretary; Marian Darcy, Treasurer; Mary Cleary, Asst. Treasurer; Tina Boyle, PRO; Darragh Quinn and Asst. PRO; Martin Waldron. A number of sub-groups dealing with such areas as local walks, farmer’s market, festivals & events and tidy towns will also provide regular reports to the tourism body. Strategic objectives including increasing membership and fundraising were also discussed while the organising of a pre-Christmas event in the village and preparing plans for the 2014 Festival of Finn are also priorities.

Bright Idea Quiz
The cost of maintaining and improving the Christmas lights in Corofin is an expensive matter and the local committee responsible for bringing this festive colour to the village is always hard pressed to fund the operation. Locals can support their efforts on Friday October 6th when a fundraising table quiz will be held at Bofey Quinns. The quiz gets under way at 9.30pm and is open to teams of four.

Huge Demand

All roads lead to Croke Park on this Saturday for the replay of the All Ireland senior hurling final between Clare and Cork. There was an expectation that tickets for the big game would be easier to come by than for the drawn game on September 8th. However the demand locally has been huge with many families availing of the reduced prices, especially for children, to sample the atmosphere of an All Ireland final in Croke Park. It is understood that Corofin GAA club has had requests for in excess of 600 tickets for the replay.
Coffee Morning

A Coffee Morning in aid of cancer services was held at the Teach Ceoil in Corofin on Wednesday of last week. This annual event is usually very well supported and this year was no exception with more than €500 being raised towards this worthy cause.

Harps Get The Point

Corofin Harps played their first league tie on their return to the Premier Division of the Clare Soccer League on Sunday last when they travelled to Scariff to take on Mountshannon Celtic. Although the local side was without a number of key players they dominated the early exchanges and took the lead mid-way through the first half, Jason Tierney scoring from the penalty spot after Fiachra Roche was fouled in the box. Celtic levelled matters early in the second half, on the break and at the end both sides were happy to settle for a share of the spoils.
