Tourism Association Regroup

Having taken a break over the last two months the Corofin Tourism Association are already getting ready to make further progress in promoting Corofin and its environs in 2014. They will hold their next meeting on Wednesday evening September 18th at the Burren Life Balance Centre at Killeen commencing at 8.00pm. The meeting will examine putting a formal structure on the association which has operated on a loose organisational structure since being set up at the begining of 2012. The meeting will look at the election of officers and comence on a plan of action for 2014. All current members and anyone else interested in geting involved in local tourism promotion are invited to atend.

Captain´s Prize

The highlight the year for all golf societies is the Captain´s Prize competition and this traditionally attracts most members to contest for one of the many prizes on offer but in particular the coveted Captain´s Prize trophy. David Daly the 2013 captian of the Corofin Society will host society members and guests at Gort Golf Club on this Saturday September 14th. The tee is reserved from 9.30am.

Language Classes

There is now an opportunity for locals wishing to learn a new language or to brush up on their French or Spanish with plans to run classes in these subjects in Corofin over the coming weeks. French classes previously run in the village proved very popular and the organisers are hoping that this new initiative will also attract a good attendance. Camogie News

The local camogie club has been achieving very positive results in recent weeks and the Junior team has reached the county semi-final against Feakle-Broadford which is scheduled to be played on the week-end of September 21st-22nd. Winning two of their three games against Parteen, Banner and Cratloe has qualified the u-13 side also for a semi-final slot where thay are due to meet Banner again later this week. In the u-16A championship the club has been going really well with wins over St. Josephs, Eire Og and Sixmilebridge with Newmarket on Fergus their next opponents. In the Minor B Championship Corofin recorded comprehensive wins over Truagh-Clonlara and Clooney-Quin which sees the minor side through to the semi-final scheduled to be played on this Friday at a venue to be decided.

School Fundraiser

A novel fundraising idea which will go towards the purchase of ICT equipment at Kilnaboy National School has seen an appeal issued by the school for a range of used items to be donated towards this endeavour over the next three weeks. The organisers will welcome donations of mens, womens and childrens clothing as well as belts, shoes, handbags, ties, household linen, textiles and stuffed toys. Items can be left at the school from this Thursday September 12th up until 9.30am on Wednesday October 2nd. The school would also welcome any old mobile phones which should be kept separate from all other donations.
