Corofin-Kilnaboy Notes 5th Sept

End of the Summer Market

The final Farmer´s Market of the summer season will be held in Corofin on this Friday September 6th. The introduction of the market as part of the Festival of Finn in May showed the demand for a local market and it has continued on the first Friday of each subsequent month. The organisers are planning a Christmas Fair as their next venture and they also intend to resume the farmer´s market again in 2014. The market on this Friday will be hld as usual in Church Street from 11.00am until 3.00pm.

Exodus To Croker

A big number of hurling supporters from the parish will be joining the thousands of Clare suporters heading to Croke Park for Sunday´s All Ireland decider against Cork. There has been a mad scramble for tickets over the past two weeks since Clare´s semi final victory over Limerick but it would appear that most of those who are making the trip to the final have managed to secure the all important entry ticket. In common with the rest of the county the Corofin area has seen Clare flags and colours promintently displayed in recent days as the entire county lends its support to the Clare hurlers in their attempt to secure another title for the Banner county.

Charities Benefit

The Corofin Vintage Tractor Committee succeeded in raising more than 1,000 euro from the vintage car and tractor rally held some weeks ago in Corofin and North Clare. Corofin Senior Citizens and The Clare Crusaders are the two charities to benefit from the fund and both are greatly appreciative of the efforts of the local group. The organising committee expressed their thanks to their sponsors and suporters and to everyone who helped out on the day.

The death occured at the weekend of Mr. Frank Fitzpatrick of Bridge Street Corofin. His funeral took place from Nagle´s Funeral Home Ennistymon on Monday evening and he was interred at Kilvoydane Cemetery following funeral mass on Tuesday morning.
